We start by checking homework from the previous chapter:

We make sure everyone understands the concept of time zones in Europe. We use some examples.

Next, we go back to the political maps we traced on translucent paper.

If our political maps don't include the names of the ocean and seas, we make sure we label them correctly: Atlantic Ocean, Caspian Sea, Arctic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea.

Although it is not included in the chapter, we are making a table of the European countries that are members of the European Union, with their capital cities. We pay a special attention to those that share a common currency (EURO).

We can use the information from this map:

EUROPEAN UNION MAP

Or just copy it from this table

After we have studied the 27 European countries that are members of the European Union, there are other countries we need to learn. Seven European countries are currently candidates to enter the EU or they are potential candidates.

In this table you can sea all the European countries and their capitals.

The number of countries in Europe is in constant change. In the table provided above there are 50 countries. Some people do not consider Ttrkey or Russia as part of Europe because they also have territories in Asia. In other cases, like Kosovo, some countries do not recognize its independence from Serbia.
